The University of North Dakota's Office of Extended Learning has expanded its catalog of continuing education courses, introducing two new online programs aimed at professionals seeking career advancement. The new offerings include a commercial driver's license training program and a trauma-informed care certificate, both designed to meet growing workforce demands in transportation and healthcare.
The CDL program provides flexible, self-paced instruction that prepares students for the written portion of the licensing exam. It covers vehicle inspection, basic control, and safe driving practices, allowing learners to study around their existing work schedules. The trauma-informed care certificate, meanwhile, targets educators, social workers, and healthcare providers. It focuses on recognizing the signs of trauma, understanding its impact on behavior, and applying supportive strategies in professional settings.
Officials say the new programs reflect a broader push to make continuing education more accessible. "We are listening to what employers and students need," said a representative from the office. "These courses remove barriers like travel and fixed class times." The expansion comes as many industries struggle to fill skilled positions, and online learning continues to grow as a preferred method for upskilling. Enrollment for both programs is now open, with courses available entirely online.
