The Wyoming Department of Education wrapped up its first-ever L3 Summit last week, a three-day event focused on leadership, language, and literacy. The gathering brought together 453 educators, school administrators, and literacy advocates from across the state.
The summit was supported by Wyoming's Comprehensive Literacy State Development Grant, the largest federally funded language and literacy program in the state. The grant funded two separate June conferences aimed at improving how schools teach reading and writing. Organizers said the goal was to give teachers and leaders practical tools they could use in their classrooms and districts.
Sessions covered a range of topics, from early childhood literacy strategies to ways school leaders can support language development in older students. Attendees included classroom teachers, reading specialists, principals, and district-level staff. Many participants noted the value of networking with peers from different parts of Wyoming, a state where rural schools often face unique challenges in accessing professional development.
The summit also featured keynote speakers and breakout workshops. While the WDE has not yet announced plans for a second summit, officials said the strong turnout and positive feedback suggest there is demand for more events like this one.
