Ten young Islanders earn education and workforce scholarships

Ten young Islanders earn education and workforce scholarships

MVYouth announced this week that the community fund has awarded close to 600,000 dollars to 10 local high school students. The scholarships cover college, healthcare and education, and workforce development for the year.

"With the generous support of our donors, MVYouth has selected an excellent group of students each spring for the past 12 years," the organization said in a statement. "In this time, we have seen these young people go on to make real contributions to their communities."

The recipients include students pursuing degrees in nursing, teaching, and trades like carpentry and electrical work. Others are heading to four-year colleges to study environmental science, business, and the arts. The fund aims to support both academic paths and hands-on career training, recognizing that not every student needs a traditional university degree.

MVYouth has now given out over 7 million dollars in scholarships since the program began. The selection committee looked at academic records, community involvement, and personal essays. One winner said the money will allow her to focus on her studies instead of working multiple jobs.

The announcement comes as many families on the island struggle with rising costs. For these ten students, the award removes a major barrier to their next step in life.
